I have a "hot take" on this situation, myself that honestly I think a lot of people in this community alone will agree with - I think Diablo Immortals should have been canned ever since the initial reaction to it with "Do you guys not have phones?" - It was extraordinarily clear that this was not what Blizzard's fans wanted and they should have taken the hint so they could cut their losses. They are trying to develop too many things at once and are being stretched too thin when they are already disliked by the general population in the current climate.
Here are things they are working on (strikethroughs indicate possible abandonment and lack of recent development):
D2R
D3
D4
HotS
W3R
Hearthstone
Overwatch
Overwatch 2
Starcraft Remastered
Starcraft 2
WoW
CoD:BOCW
CoD:Vanguard
CoD:MW
CoD:BO4
CoD:MW2
Crash Bandicoot 4
WoW2?
A couple of new IPs
AND Diablo Immortals
It is perhaps a possibility that they are "in too deep" now in development with Immortals, but investing development efforts into it have been a mistake in my opinion. Many of their games are just dead. With everything going on with them right now, they need to return to their roots and focus on the basics.
I thought that Immortal was primarily being developed by a Chinese company.
The blowback is because of that, plus the fact that it seemed to be a copy cat of this Chinese company’s other game, and that it’s also got gamble boxes and pay to win.
Long story short, a greedy cash grab.
