They had a decade to fix D3 and couldn't figure out why people liked playing D1/D2.
Also, I don't think they're capable of fixing it at this point, because they already released it as a pay-to-win game.
If they actually do what they need to do to make the game actually fun, then they can't make money from the game, so it's not going to happen.
It's too late and besides it was designed to be another cash grab from Blizzard/Activision, which that part of it I am sure is "working perfectly" in their minds.
Sounds to me like the ultimate way to combat the issue is to play the game, for free, and enjoy it. That'll show 'em. If you're too busy worrying about what the next guy has, how do you enjoy any game at all? Someone is always better than you.
D2 is forever a great game but I think alot has to be do with the nostalgia effect that comes with it. I've attempted to come back to it, and it's great. Love the game and forever will.
Anyhow, the game is playable, money spent or not. Yes, the game directs you to purchase their packages but it is not necessary. Honestly, there's nothing that would direct me to rush to the in-game store to buy crests to gather up legendary gems as I already have some. The fun in actually grinding the game is far more enjoyable. Even when I came back to D2, i preferred to start from normal act 1 and manually run through the game. It's the true grind that I find more entertaining.
The game isn't for everyone, clearly. Hopefully in a month, everyone who doesn't like the game just moves onto something else or goes somewhere else to complain about another game that didn't revolve around their wants. Why are we even surprised that Blizzard would move in this direction anyway? It's a true surprise that anyone is shocked that they'd release a mobile game WITHOUT a gacha system. You can also play the game without ever touching pvp or the Elder Rift. Nothing about either of those puts a "wall" in the gameplay.
I think the true horror upon everyone is that they couldn't turn the game into their own personal cash cow because none of the items are tradeable Yet, there are people who are already exploiting the game by selling platinum. There will always be a way around everything.
