It's not what the fans wanted that were present on the blizzcon.
By and large, it's not what the fans want in general.
However, you're missing two crucial points:
1) it's what shareholders want, because microtransactions in mobile games are literal cash grab godesses that they'd be stupid not to milk
2) China is a gigantic country, and they are for some reason or another HUGE on mobile games. They have numbers, it's a gigantic market. They want this. And they'll bring blizzard a fuckton of money, see point 1)
It can be said about blizzard, but then again, it can be said about pretty much all companies these days: they don't give a hoot about what fans want. It's a very sad reality. But it's a very sad reality we'll have to accept, I'm afraid.
