There is newer servers, not sure what region you are but they have been opened for about 5 months which will be less of a disadvantage for you.
Keywardens on the east coast and Hunt for the three on the west.

To pay to win you must buy orbs bottom line, these will get you crests. You run crests to sell in the auction house for platinum, with platinum you should only be buying secondary gems and running legacy of horadrim as much as possible. You upgrade your legendary gems by running more crests, DO NOT buy legendary gems from the auction house. If you plan to get rank 10 legendary gems look into which gems resonate those gems and get those to rank 10 as well.

If you want to compete at the highest level you will need to spend well over 50 thousand and upwards of 100 thousand to reach the peak.
