I'm fucking tired of spaghetti and kool aid.

I saw the actual poor student's cookbook - http://imgur.com/gallery/pHUdq - and thought of this.

Could someone write up a cheap version of http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2014/04/the-best-general-tsos-chicken-food-lab-chinese-recipe.html ?

Cheap meaning don't care about quality too much. Something like 6$/lbs chicken would be fine. Low quality meat is fine I really don't care that much about it being healthy.

I can spend maybe 30$ a week max, and probably 5-10$ for a big 5-10lbs bag of rice.

For such dish go for boneless chicken thigh. It's cheaper then breast and less dry. Buy in bulk and freeze if you really wanna save. But honestly i wouldnt make general tso.. it's deep fried, overly sweet, and not authentic chinese. Really bad for you, and they are better way to make chicken... For example, just sautee in high heat garlic and ginger with the chicken (marinate it 10 min with a spoon of corn starch and little bit soy), after throw in some vegetable (bell peppers, onion..etc) , if you want throw in some peanuts or cashew, then deglaze with little bit of water, equal part soy sauce/oyster sauce , to taste. Way healthier and tastier then general tso...

Another suggestion; you can make thai chicken curry. Basically sautee the chicken a little bit, some veggies if u like, add red curry paste, sautee untile aromatic (around 20 sec) them deglaze with coconut milk, dash of thai fish sauce, little bit sugar, keffir lime leafes ( if u cant find, you can skip.). Then reduce until its thick and the chicken is cooked.

Honestly any type of marinade is fine, that's the first that came to mind. The general's I get from my local chinese carryout is much more spicy than sweet.

Curry is a great idea, too.
