I basically want a food that sits in my cupboard or fridge, so I can eat it without preparation (like a granola bar, beef jerky, fruit etc)

Must be reasonably healthy (prefer no protein bars or meal replacement stuff. Frozen-dinners are undesirable too)

Stuff that is non-perishable that I can keep in a pack/car/desk and eat would be good too

ragu comes in a lot of flavors and varieties now ;)

mix and match with noodles and have ground beef on hand for some easy meals.

except for fruits, those are mutually exclusive.

if you follow this diet, you will be very unhealthy. do you not have access to cooking facilities? some basic cooking is very fast and easy, and 1000 times healthier than what you are proposing.

well, the problem is that perishable food is hard to take to work and stuff ... need a lunchbox and prepared lunches etc.

Would be desirable to get 1 lb of X food and leave for work. Also the preparation time isn't a big deal, it's the cleanup that I mostly hate

Edit: I shouldn't say preparation time is no big deal ... given any sort of protein you're pretty much committed to 30 minutes in most cases. Unless you like microwave chicken :D

Do you not have access to a fridge to keep your lunch in our a microwave to hear it?

Even if no to both, something like a child cut sandwich won't need refrigeration and is fast and easy to make with little cleanup. It's not super healthy to eat that for lunch every day, but it's better than protein bars and the like.

Another thing you can do, especially if you can access a microwave At least is to prepare good, portion it out (make a lot at once do you don't have to do it often) and freeze them. It won't need refrigeration, and if you take it out in the morning it should be pretty much defrosted by the time you're ready to eat it, depending how you pack it. Even if you can't access a microwave, you can make something that you can eat cool/lukewarm. Again, it's no give star cuisine but it's much healthier than the alternative.
