Some girl just told me in the kitchen (i live in the dorm) that it is bad for a pan to wash it. I call it bullshit as long as you don't pour cold water on hot pan. What do you guys think?

It'd bad to put it in a dishwasher or to use an abrasive brush. But hand washing with a nylon scrubber and a non abrasive soap is fine.

yep that's what i've been doing. I didn't even use dishwasher, just soft sponge. And she just attacked me. I suppose her pan is all fucked up because she uses such a high flame to bake all her stuff.

Depending on what type of coating it is, she's right. My egg pans that I work with have to be cleaned by just wiping them with paper towel and a bit of oil, otherwise in 6 months they will start to break down because even mild soap will have an affect if you use it multiple times a day every day.

But you shouldn't have a problem if you only use them a few times a week and NEVER put them in the dishwasher.

I don't have a dishwasher. I used this pan for 2+ years now and it's still just like brand new.

Usually this is only true for cast iron. My aunt taught me to only clean them with SUPER hot water then coat it with a little oil so it doesn't rust.

But like people are saying non stick pans can loose there coating if you are too rough on them.
