I wouldn't really stick to a single book.
Imo, trial and error is the best way.
because when you make a mistake, it will stick with you longer vs than finding recipies and following those.
get to know your herbs, and seasonings. and try them raw/ by them selves, so you know what they taste like, and have an idea of what to put in your food.
find good quality kitchen utensils, like my favorite, a cast iron seasoned frying pan.
if you get a book, you will be adapting a chef's signature in cooking, you need to find your own "signature" first, then find a chef's who's cooking style is closest to yours
and then, it will be easier to cook for you
