ooh! a nice fettucuini with garlic bread. (although i'd avoid messy foods and ones with garlic because you want your breath to smell good)
or a nice oriental stirfry with beef or shrimp, vegetables, over a bed of rice with teriyaki sauce.
butter chicken with rice and naan. (a nice indian meal is always adventerous and says you like to explore!)
c:

make sure you have a nice dessert too, like chocolate covered strawberries or a lava cake.
and have wine! and if you dont like wine have sparkling cider.
and use candle lights and nice background music!
that's a girl's dream homemade romantic dinner haha.

good luck!

that sounds like the most generic and un-imaginative meal idea I've ever heard

if you're cooking, cook something together that neither of you had before. pick some foreign meal that's similar to what she eats but different. if she likes western noodles, then pick asian noodles like pho. if she likes asian rice, then pick western rice.

strangler vine or poison ivy?

i proposed with food. made a chicken cutlet with swirled yuca and sweet potato duchess and i think sauteed vegs. used a balsamic glaze to write "marry me?" on the chicken.
