Not taking about the high-end, fancy restaurants.

Just the basic chain restaurants.

If I'm not paying with a card, how should I leave the tip?

On the table?
Give it to the waiter?

Some of the restaurants I've eaten at have the janitors pick up the tips and put it in a jar.
So if I don't leave a tip, it won't matter right since the waiter won't see me not leave one since the janitor handles it?

----

If I'm using a card, am I supposed to write a note on the receipt to the waiter?
I've seen pics of this before.

some places if you pay with a credit card, they will give you like 2 receipts. one where you have to sign and you can put the tip on there will have a line

tip ______
total ______

otherwise, i just lay the tip on the table.

If I have cash I'll just leave it on the table. Most times though I just pay with card and add it to my receipt.

If tip is included I DO NOT add anymore tip to it. I hate when they add gratuity for me.

Kinda depends cause if i pay with a card i just have then take the tip off the card. If i pay with cash i usually leave the tip on the table I know the owners of the restaurant i go to though cause there friends with my parents so i just tell them that i left it on the table or hand it to them personally.

depends on what ive got, also depends on service, if the servers are really slow and inattentive i wont leave a tip, a tip is there to show the server has done a GOOD job, so the better job they do without being downright annoying = the larger tip

The question is NOT about the amount of tip, it's about how it is given (if given)

Depending on setting its good to hand it personally. A must if you're at a bar and you tip cash.. Flashiest bill most visible!!
