Chicago, NY, LA and SF are all amazing for different things. The Mexican food in LA at a shitty neighborhood spot will likely be world class and dirt cheap. Chicago is a city exceeding proud of being great at hospitality, the food does not disappoint across the board. NY has more trash tourist traps than any of the others but also some highs and variety you won't get else where. SF 10 or so of the best meals of my life have been there, the low end in SF is weaker than LA but the mid-mid-high is so strong in SF. Also the international dist in south SF is home to some of the best malasian/indonesian/indian food I have had.
