I'm pretty sure they just boil grains since they don't care too much about the tannins being extracted, let it cool, let it ferment wildly or pitch some yeast, and then just distill the alcohol. Idk if you really need anything that's too hard to come by besides the still

yeah but true moonshine is corn grain i believe. and they use a bunch of sugar i think. i bet using honey would be epic.

something with vapor from the boil is the liquor idk ive only watch moonshiners. lol

Well don't matter too much what they use if they are good enough. Once you get high enough alcohol, it will primarily be alcohol and water. At that point alcohol is alcohol. If u get 40-60 abv I'm sure you could taste maybe the origin but past that, I think the burn will cover up the flavor

Most likely they just use cheapest/easiest to extract the sugars

Got a bourbon "barrel aged" ale going atm. put a few ounces of french oak chips in a few ounces of bourbon. got that sitting in fridge atm while beer is in primary. gonna throw in the bourbon soaked chips in during secondary and age it for 1-2 weeks.

should be done for opening day of deer gun season.
