idk how broke people can be.

i just ran to the market today and i decided to actually look at my receipt:
huge bag of baby bok choi
bag of garlic
1.5 lb of pork belly
chilli sauce
1 leek
1 bundle of leek flowers
some snacks

total was $17 and this is enough to eat for half a week, perhaps more.
the most expensive things were the sauce and snacks (which were a weak impulse buy)...you can eat pretty damn good for cheap, so idk how you guys are only buying ramen and shitty beans...

that's 4$/day? a school semester is around 120 days so that would be around 500$/semester on food. some people don't have money for college so they have to take out loans. some people can't take out another 1000$/year for food

its funny because thats about the same as US government food stamps per day, so if its possible for a family of 4 to live on that, a single person can eat like a king.

i mean, if you dont have more than $5 in the bank, then ya, youre screwed no matter what and might as well get those 10c ramens. but ive never seen anyone that broke in college, most people are lazy and like to exaggerate. kids will complain about not having enough money for food whilst carrying a starbucks latte.

something simple like fried rice can be had for <$2 though. rice is cheap in bulk, frozen mixed veg runs about 1.50 a bag, soy sauce can be had for free if you steal from local restaurants, plus some 99c hotdogs and 99c green onions and youve got an OK meal for a couple weeks. its not the healthiest meal but its better than just ramen. or if you cant afford much else ramen + egg will always do in a cinch. eggs are pretty great actually :)

many do exaggerate, but not everyone. my dad maxed out on loans, worked two jobs, and had to "donate" plasma at the max allowed rate. mostly ate plain noodles (without sauce). he ended up dropping out of his last trimester due to lack of funds. was on welfare for a bit because he couldnt get a half decent job, then enlisted in the military.
