If you like scotch ale, Oskar Blues Old Chub is one of my personal favorites

tried a hard cider today - smith & forge. was ok. supposedly 6% abv, but basically tasted like apple juice and i didnt get much of a buzz, even from 4 of em. (3 in close proximity, one only a lil later.) was fun, we bought a 12 pack, stuck it in my backpack and headed to the beach. probably wont buy again, tho.

Out of all the ciders I've had I'd recommend waupoos. It's local to ontario so I doubt you'd have much luck finding it, but it really is fantastic.

Picked up a bottle of Dissenter by founders, an india pale lager.
Gonna try it late tonight after work.

few days overdue on doing this but I just got done with my 6th 60+ hour week and was too tired to properly review it as I drank it.
Honestly, at 12.99 for a bomber, this beer was crap. This was a good beer, but simply because of the price I couldn't recommend it at all.
I was skeptical about it because I've never had the style and frankly the style just doesn't sound right to me (india pale lager) but I like founders as a brewery and figured for a bottle at that price from founders had better be damn good.
This beer had a decent hop smell, mostly citrus fruits from what I remember, but also kind of a cheap domestic beer smell to it as well.
The taste was very hop forward, mostly citrus fruits from what I remember which I loved, but it quickly progressed to a heavy bitter taste.
Now I know a lot of craft beer people like a nice bitter finish on their beer, I myself love it, however this was not a nice finish.
It had a cheap domestic lager taste to it and just kept lingering.

Try it if you want but I wouldn't recommend Dissenter ipl from founders.

Tonight I had a two ipa's, and this was because I had one in the fridge already when I bought the other and had to drink the old while I waited to for the new to get cool enough to enjoy.
Second reason was to compare the two beers since they are both the same style.

First beer is a staple ipa for any craft beer drinker IMO, Lagunitas ipa.
Not much to say about this beer, I'm sure you've all enjoyed it at some point as its a good beer and readily available about anywhere I believe. Just a solid example of an ipa, nice smell and hop taste, decent malt backbone with a nice mouthfeel to it.

Second beer that I'm just now drinking is Ballast Point's Big Eye ipa.
I live in Ohio and this is a san diego brewery that isn't as big as other west coast breweries so its harder to find their brews here, and believe me I've been on the lookout for Sculpin for a while. But I saw this beer tonight and bought it.

First impression of the beer, it poured nicely, good amount of head that lingered longer than most ipa's with decent lacing too.
The smell however really caught me off guard. I'm catching a little hops, but not the typle west coast hop smell you'd expect, instead I'm smelling a deep earthy hop smell, and after really reaching for it I got some tropical fruit smell too. The other big part of the smell is the alcohol (7.0 abv which is fairly high for an ipa I think) and the malts, mostly sweet bready with a little caramel sweet malt in there. Honestly this turned me off and I had low expectations for the beer as I love really hop forward ipa's that are balanced but not overpowering with the malts, and have a nice dry, bitter finish.
Upon tasting this beer I immediately changed my tune. Its got a nice citrus and tropical fruit taste, catching some piney and earthy hop taste as well. It then moves to a nice malt taste, mostly sweet bready but a hint of caramel in there, not overpowering at all, just how I like my ipa's. The most suprising thing about this beer however was the finish. It was a dry, bitter finish however the finish reminded me more of a hard cider than an ipa. Honestly this was a pleasant surprise, it left a nice aftertaste and made me keep coming back for more sips. The beer also had a nice crisp mouthfeel, light with just the right amount of carbonation for it. I will definitely pick this beer up if I see it again, but who knows when that will be since I live in Ohio and I feel we are sometimes deprived of some nice west coast brews. But seriously this is up ther as a staple ipa for me for sure, good example of the style imo, try it if you haven't!

I finally cracked open my darklord. It was good, but not quite what I was expecting. It had kind of a soy sauce/teriyaki/almost bacony flavor to it. At 15% alcohol, this beer was incredibly smooth and did not taste boozy at all. I would love to try this bourbon barrel aged but overall I do not think this beer is worth the hype. If I got another bottle I would try to trade it for something else. I really want to try cigar city hunaphu imperial stout or Westbrook mexican cake.

E: also, I grabbed a founders dissenter the day it came out and havn't opened it yet... never really had any ipl before but I plan on opening it up tonight or tomorrow. Il let you know what I think of that

I've been on a little spicy beer trend lately, and this beirgarten by my house had dragons milk special reseeve, bourbon barrel stout with roasted chili's. This beer was awesome, had a spicy taste right off the bat and still had the dragon milk bourbon barrel taste. I've had other spicy beers which were just awful bit this one I would have again. I still really wanna try bourbon barrel mayan mocha stout though. Still havn't had dissenter yet...
