Indeed! But the environment was already rich in the right type of Saccharomyces. Not sure now a days...

As for being stranded on an island... I'd go nuts before I need a beer. (second thought... you have a good point: I'd want a beer before I worry about going nuts.)

i also heard something about old bananas giving off yeast but im not too sure about that.

and ugh got some bottles from a friend, but he didnt wash em out before he gave them to me. pain getting the mold outta some of them.
