I prefer steel cut oatmeal, even though it takes longer to cook. You could mix in some apple sauce if you are trying to avoid sugar. My fav will probably always be milk and brown sugar though. Try a drop of vanilla too, it changes the flavour. I don't think you can completely get rid of the oatmeal flavour though unless you drown it in other stuff - and then you lose the benifits :)

I actually might try this o.o

Hmm, I missed this post. What's "steel cut oatmeal" ? :)

I like having apple sauce and cinnamon because it in a way reminds me of the taste of apple pie

Add fruits, (brown) sugar. Usually frozen berries + sugar works good.

Or then, just accept the fact not everything good tastes good. I even eat raw oat flakes with milk, but I'm lucky to like it.

Be careful not to drown in your oatmeal then.

use steel cut oatmeal, make it in a pan. and add half of the water they recommend. i prefer my oatmeal more like a paste than a soup. so for my version i take:

3/4 cup of oatmeal
1cup of water (boiling, because some evaporates while boiling)
a pinch of salt (to make the water boil at a hotter temperature, as well as adding a good contrast on your pallet for the next ingredient)
1/4th cup of brown sugar, packed (any more and your just asking to have diabetes when you grow up)
half a tablespoon of butter (NOT margarine)
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
one gala or fuji apple (medium)

get all of your ingredients in place, while water is coming to a boil add the pinch of salt, cut up your apple.
when the water comes to a boil, add oatmeal and stir. let sit for a minute and add your apple, cinnamon, brown sugar, and your apple.
once oatmeal is done, add the HALF of a tablespoon of butter (anymore and you will have TOO MUCH butter flavor) and stir.
Enjoy OmegaBLUE's "Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal" :)

I almost never eat plain oatmeal anymore. My current hot cereal mix is quick oats, oat bran, wheat bran, farina, sliced almonds, unsweetened coconut, raisins, and honey. Other things I add from time to time include bulgur, quinoa, flax seeds, other nuts, other dried fruit, fruit preserves.
