Hi, i've been learning how to cook for a couple of months now because i am in university. Ive learned some skills from my brother, parents and chef ramsay/youtube videos, but i was wondering if anyone can suggest books that break down the basics of cooking? such as pan temperatures, and things of that nature.

once you get into university you will find this out

best cooking =

cook in pan

cook sauce in same pan

mix in pan

eat from pan

clean the pan

nn dishes, big waste of time

if you need to rest something then its too complicated, if you're gonna make a steak just put the veges in a small oven with tin foil and REST YOUR STEAK IN THE PAN

i know rofl, ive been doing that for a year already. but i want to start learning how to cook properly (temperatures, and i want all the why's of cooking answered)

The best thing for that would be a cooking textbook like one that's used on culinary school.

I dont think you need to buy a book. All the informatino you need is online, for recipes and tips. :)

I wouldn't really stick to a single book.
Imo, trial and error is the best way.
because when you make a mistake, it will stick with you longer vs than finding recipies and following those.

get to know your herbs, and seasonings. and try them raw/ by them selves, so you know what they taste like, and have an idea of what to put in your food.

find good quality kitchen utensils, like my favorite, a cast iron seasoned frying pan.


if you get a book, you will be adapting a chef's signature in cooking, you need to find your own "signature" first, then find a chef's who's cooking style is closest to yours

and then, it will be easier to cook for you

I spent 5 years in a tiny room when I was in University and beside my fridge I used a combo 2 elements small oven and I cook everything I want

i'm actually curious in this as well. i just recently found out that you should never use olive oil in the pan on high since it becomes carcinogenic at 400 degrees.

and since i bake with un-classical ingredients (stevia instead of sugar, unsweet almond milk instead of milk, oat flour and whole wheat flour instead of flour, etc) i'm not sure how to alter ingredients haha. not to mention knowing when to whisk vs spatula folding, how much butter, etc
