I have a question about peppers and their spicyness.

If you are already used to eating some peppers that are fairly spicy such as jalapenos, and then try a habanero, what is the burn like?

What i mean by that is it similar to the burn someone gets when they try a relatively spicy food or sauce for the first time (like the first time someone trys tabasco sauce), or is it a different feeling of burn. Is it a deeper burn, longer lasting, or does it give that sharp tounge being pinched by a vice grip feeling?

Also, if you ate enough of a peper such as jalapeno, and it got to the point where you detected no heat from them at all, that would mean your body is acclimated to the capcasian right? If so would it be acclimated to hotter peppers aswell, or would going up a few levels in heat light you on fire just like the first time trying tabasco?

if you built up tolerance to a chemical, just changing how that chemical is delivered and in what dosage wouldnt really change your tolerance to the chemical. that being said though, you do have a many fold increase when switching from jalapenos to habaneros.

Habaneros are anywhere between 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville units. Jalapeños are between 3,500 and 8,000 Scoville

I'm well aware of that, but it doesn't do much to help answer my question.

If you are only used to jalapenos, the habanero will kick your ass if you try to eat it whole. I've seen people actually throw up from eating one.

yes? that is a many fold increase. i didnt feel like doing the math and determining how many fold it actually was.

I grew up eating melt your face off green chile, so when I first tried a ghostpepper (Went straight to ghostpepper, didn't try a habanero) it really wasn't too bad. However few of my friends who weren't used to hot food ended up crying for about an hour

afaik it works just like any other tolerance that you've built up.
