Hi I was wondering if anyone here has ever made sushi. I am convinced the local Asian buffet puts cocaine in the stuff, cause I cant get enough. Like I crave it beyond anything else.

Does anyone know if you can get the stuff to make it at krogers? I like Philadelphia rolls and California rolls. If you can get EVERYTHING at krogers, how much does it cost for enough to make 3 lbs of sushi?

what is expensive in sushi's is the protein... for what youre talking about it's salmon and crab imitation.... so yeah pretty cheap...
sushi basically is cooked rice with vinegar and sugar... i find that north american sushi rice is generally WAY too sweet, kills the taste of the fish...
also personnaly i'm not too fond of american sushi rolls... id rather have sushi rice with a piece of fresh fish/seafood on it with wasabi, that's all (nigiri)...

Yeah I kinda noticed that the rice is a bit to sweet. I would love to have some true sushi rice. I have had imitation wasabi, but Idk how it compares to the real stuff.

You can get pretty good ingredients at Whole Foods. And actually, the Kroger's out here (King Sooper's in Colorado) sell premade sushi. Now, I wouldn't recommend that unless you know they dropped it off that day, but it is an option. Whole Foods generally also sells pre-made sushi far cheaper than sushi restaurants, and it's pretty good quality (especially if you have the guy make fresh for you).

I was more of wanting to make it myself. I am not exactly the wealthiest person in the world, and I want acceptable sushi at a low cost. I am wanting it for the taste, not the looks. If I can make my own for $1.25 a pound, I dont care if it looks like a turd lol

Well, all you need is rice, rice vinegar, seaweed, avocado, cucumber, and canned crab (and maybe some sprouts), and you've got a California roll. Buy some powdered wasabi and soy sauce and you're good to go. It won't be best sushi you ever ate, but it will be passable. The most expensive thing there is the crab. You can save more if you get fake crab, but then you're starting to enter the realm of why bother?

Jeb90, ty for the advice. I am actually quite fond of imitation crab (more so than most real crab actually) so It would work out fairly well.

Wrong, there is sugar, just not a whole lot. You don't want the sushi to actually taste sweet, it's just to balance the vinegar taste...

NEver been to Korgers, but I make ALOT of sushi at home hehee♄ cuz asian.

but this is how i make it:

Ingredients:
Rice
fake crab meat,
calviar/seaseme seeds,
Avacados,
boiled Carrots.
Seaweed wraps
Sushi vinegar

Cook some rice, the sushi styled rice, it wil be a smaller grain.

cool down the rice, and add in some sushi vinegar, also called rice vinegar, to taste.

take those chopstick looking thingys, (forgot what they are caleld lol)

^^ That

and lay them flat on the table,

then lay the seaweed wrap on the chopstick thingys,

Spread the cooled down rice, VERY THINLY on the seaweed wrap,

take the calviar/seaseme seeds and sprinkle it across the rice, DONT over do it.

after that,

take the ingredients:
fake crab meat,
calviar/seaseme seeds,
Avacados,
boiled Carrots.

and slice them very thinly horizontally _
and lay them on the end closest to youhorizontally,

and then start to roll it.
im not gonna even try to explain how to roll it lol;
here is a website, it finishes off the rest :)
