An area that I fish up north has a body of water which I think is French, called "Poche de Noche".

When I try to translate online, I can see that Poche came through as French, but Noche is assumed to be Spanish.

Is Noche something in French, or a derivative of a word?

Also, how would you pronounce Poche de Noche?

Hmm. That's weird. I thought the area was primarily French in origin. Is there some connection to French and Spanish in Northern Wisconsin?

Or maybe it's just it's name. i mean a poche could be like a little lake or a bay, and "de Noche" would be it's name. Like the Hạ Long Bay

This is what the body of water looks like. It is part of the Menominee River, where the river used to flow. The narrow bit of land was washed out, and created the little horse shoe that only has a little tributary running to it now. I was just hoping the name would have some interesting meaning behind it.
