i have to fill in the verb in the bracket and i have no idea what it would be or how to negate the verb in past tense

i know in present tense it usually is ne[verb]pas like a sandwhich but in past tense is it the same?

you're right it's : ne se sont pas couchés because "n'ont pas été se couché" would have been : ne pas eu avoir à se coucher) or smthg like that
