The new system honestly, is just something Riot created (or copied) to satisfy the "baddies" of this game, which represent the 95% of the playerbase. A "baddie" is more content being goldIV or getting from goldV to goldIV rather than getting 50 elo, in his mind he is now 1 step higher as a player. It's all a psychological thing, Riot must make it's players feel well about their rank and their improvement, because Riot is a bussiness.
Just to mention, me myself I'm a baddie, but i understand that going from gold5 to gold4 is the same as going from 1500 to 1550 elo. Just saying, I feel that the new system is stupid, just because all it does is make you feel good by effectively "hidding" the truth, or just saying it in different words. It's like being 8th in a race with 8 people. You're either 8th from first, or last, what do you prefer to be?
