Hey all!

I just sold a bunch of items yesterday in prep for another game coming up and decided to quit this ladder very early.

I sold a HOTO to someone where I found the base, and Ko, Pul Thul and bought a Vex from someone.

I got a message from the buyer saying that the HOTO had just disappeared randomly like it was a duped item.

Is it possible the Vex I got was duped and caused the HOTO to disappear or has something else happened potentially? I know dupes were quite common in D2, but I thought they would be gone in D2R?

Any info would be great here.

I have not yet seen a duped item, or at least a disappearing one. If that’s the case it’s new to this season or timeframe bc i played and traded ALOT and never had this issue

I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing since I'm still relatively a newbie in terms of amount of trades/posts etc. Would you recommend I refund in this case?

Even if the vex was duped…. Once you create hoto runeword, the item ID would become a new item and wouldn’t be considered a duped item

Only way Hoto would poof is if you duped the Hoto itself

I wouldn’t. You are not responsible for what happens to an item in their care after the point of sale. Further, you can’t validate what happened to said item. If it becomes a reoccurring theme or new info comes out that duped items exist and are disappearing then maybe, but until then i wouldn’t or you’ll refund every sale that someone says the item disappeared

Kc1990 makes great points. If I were in your situation I would most likely tell them that whatever happened to it is on them. Even back in the day before d2r the way the game worked is a dupe rune used to make a new runeword would not cause the runeword to get wiped by dupe detection. So if you had everything legit except maybe the vex then that still wouldn't make sense here.

Also I haven't heard of any dupes on d2r yet nor of items going poof besides that stash storage size issue causing some items to poof that Blizzard seems to keep turning a blind eye to.

Edit: dupes aren't really possible due to our often the game saves.

Guy lost item on his own and is tryin to get refund, items don’t poof aside from the stash bug with too many lines of text
