How is the damage returned calculated for Thorns aura when a Sorc has ES on? I’ve check Amazon Basin and am trying to understand this sentence:

Damage returned is based on final physical damage, so reducing or even negating physical damage will result in less or no damage returned.

Does the final physical damage = impact on your life after ES absorbs? Therefore only a small % of the damage (say 5% with maxes ES and no other DR exist) is the damage # that is then multiplied and returned by the aura?

How does the ES reduction of damage fit into the thorns equation?

Thanks!

The final physical damage is referring to the attack against the thorned unit, not the return damage back. It is saying that if damage is negated completely, no damage will be returned.

Damage against energy shield is assumed at zero resist & absorb including physical and magic, pvp penalty is applied first just as with life. Damage reduction both % and integer is applied after ES cuts the damage by the specified %. So it should be a pretty simple cut and dry reduction based on your ES % dmg redirection, while telekinesis will determine if this dmg reduces mana more or less than it would vs the zero dr/res life portion.

Thanks for the info. So that I understand, since ES can reduce up to 95% of damage in a sense (forgive me if I don’t have the technical term here), it’s then the 5% of damage the Sorc takes to their life which is then used in the thorns damage returned (such as at level 21 ~1000% of this, for PvM).

The context is I want to try bramble on a bow Sorc as I like some of the other mods in that RW for survivability, but it’d be an added bonus if when something struck the Sorc, they’d pop dead from the returned damage.

Cheers
