I’ve been playing around with different setups for my apoc warlock and trying to understand the value of -enemy fire res vs +fire damage%

A big decision is Mang Song vs Obsession, but there’s also the fire opalvien and then there’s the -enemy fire rez sunder vs +fire damage %

obviously the %damage and +skills move the sheet value up for highest and with both setups i’m at around 38k-40k top end apoc damage.

-res is weighted more heavily the higher resist the monster has. Especially on previously immune monsters that were sundered, -res does a lot more damage than +% damage.

Generally -res is just better for a majority of cases.

-res is king. In a perfect world you'll have a -15 mang with a perf -10 fire jewel in. Throw in ff and you have -40 flat. Apoc takes another -40 flat.

you will require a 10fcr ammy to hit the 125fcr bp with the aforementioned.

That said, Obsession is exponentially better imo.

-res is better in almost all cases because that's what actually slows you down at high gear levels.

makes sense, thanks for all the responses. it seems harder to judge the actual effects since it doesn’t show up on sheet dmg.

i’m going to try a setup with mang, 2/20 ammy, FF and diablos with perfect fire jewel and a sunder with -res

Fire immunes are the main bottleneck, its the most common immunity. And -res is better than +dmg in equal amounts in almost all cases. But as you see, its not an equal weight in all cases. Mang songs gives more damage output than obsession even when you can cut some fcr items elsewhere, but that extra damage has to be compared to mass resists, life, mf, fhr, etc. But in mang song's case its +1 skills +5% dmg / -20% resist vs 35 fcr and all those stats. Since it also has an open socket for facet

Its a less clear on sunder. +10% fire damage might come close to -15% resist
