Only thing I can think of helping every run would be like Baal

Someone smarter than me chime in and tell me why you shouldn't use one or why you should always use one.

Depends on what you're farming.

I'd say it's worth getting one if you're farming tombs all the time so you don't have to wait for your merc to kill the unravellers. Also worth it if you're farming heralds. Slings, magic jewel, hellwarden and renewed sunder all give Magic pierce(up to -38%) so you can kill magic immunes fairly efficiently now, instead of waiting for your merc to take them out.

If you're just doing chaos all day, or farming act bosses, there's not much use in getting one. it's mainly for herald farming, tombs and baal more than anything.

Tal tombs and wave 2 are reason enough. 15% more dmg is gg in PVP.

I always just switch to mage at 83(many disagree and say higher level is required)
Zero need for hammers beyond 7-8k and the holy bolts for foh take care of anything in levels I want to farm.

That being said, with magic damage now being a stat that’s viable to minus, I can see how it could very much be utilized, although bone spear and holy bolt in act 2 has me kind of confused as how people aren’t getting one hit. I think Baal has a magic attack as well.

it wasnt worth it before because enemies at 95% still had too much res...
now, with items like hellwardens, turbo facet and gheeds belt, you can get their magic res even lower, so black cleft is actually usable.

because we now have additional ways to lower their magic res, it's just like every other sunder...

my gear isnt perfect, but i run something like -28% enemy res / +22% magic skill dmg / 16k hammers and 4.2k life
