UPDATE

I confirm this has fixed it..
absolutely crazy. running 3 copies now 2 on super low setting and 1 on ALL MAX ULTRA and it's perfectly smooth at 240 fps.
Still can't believe this was the fix. I'll send you 200!
Thanks to ALL of you, really appreciate the help, crazy nice community <3

The fix was -->
1. Uninstall game
2. install PTR -> create char and open game and play 2 minutes
3. re install ROTW
4. fixed - i just can't believe it lol

>> Special thanks to @ Peltikeisari

Hey!

So I got myself a new laptop. (solid setup)

I installed windows 11, updated drivers etc.
Installed Battle Net and D2Rotw.
Installed Direct X and VCRedist 64/86.

At first when I launched D2 from BNET launcher, the game would let me get into character selection but the characters would look frozen and standing very weird.
I googled my way and ended up reinstalling the game.

Now the character screen looks fine but once I get in a game, it feels like video settings are totally off.
Game crashes after just a few seconds/minutes max.

I'm quite lost, I've tried troubleshooting but just can't get it to work out..

If you can help me solve this I'll tip up to 500 fg depending on what we need to do

ty in advance!!!

EDIT:
> Also, the launcher feels laggy, i see the "press any key to begin" but rest of the screen is black when launching game
> Holding a key at that screen works and logs me into character selection
> AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D - RTX 5070 Ti - 32 Go RAM - SSD 2 To - Windows 11

In game option settings
Turn off nvidia dlss
Try setting to low quality for everything.

D2R can behave weirdly with DirectX 12 on newer cards.

Try forcing DirectX 11:
Open Battle.net
Go to D2R settings → Game Settings
Check “Additional command line arguments”
Add:
-d3d11

Edit: also could be selecting the onboard card rather than the RTX

When I first upgraded to ROTW there was a lot of funny stuff with the UI and freezing. I tried everything (forcing directx11, low settings, dlss off). only thing that fixed and is really weird- uninstalled everything d2r, then installed PTR and ran game with no issues, then installed regular game again and it worked. was able to uninstall PTR without messing with regular game.

Disable DLSS completely
If you can get into video settings at all, set:

Upscaling = Off
DLSS = Off
disable any frame generation / sharpening tied to it

Reset D2R graphics settings
Delete or rename the D2R local settings folder so the game rebuilds it cleanly.

Remove Battle.net launch arguments
In Battle.net → D2R → Game Settings, make sure Additional command line arguments is empty.
Especially remove -direct -txt if present.

Force a full asset refresh

close Battle.net fully
go to the D2R install folder
delete the Data folder
reopen Battle.net
run Scan and Repair

1. Clean reinstall GPU drivers (use Display Driver Uninstaller + latest from NVIDIA).
2. Launch with:
-dx11 (Battle.net → Game Settings → Additional command line arguments).
3. Disable overlays (GeForce, Discord).
4. Force RTX GPU in Windows Graphics Settings.
5. Run Scan & Repair in Battle.net.
6. Turn off DLSS / Ray Tracing.
If that doesn’t help, the issue is almost certainly driver compatibility with the new GPU series
