Looking to return to D2R after about two years. Was really thinking about making a frozen orb energy shield sorc. Are they trash?

I keep seeing thread and thread that Blizz is king, I just enjoy the play style of FO much more.

I am looking to farm P8 terror zones, and PVM mostly. Possibly pub duels.

Gear I had in mind:
NW (5/5 facet)
Fathom (5/5 facet)
Viper Magi (5/5 facet)
Maras
35 FCR Spirit.
Spider
Frostburns
Silk weave (more mana)
Soj/soj

Then the normal inventory needs cold lifers, life/mana scs, Anni.

Will this set-up yield my desired result of having fun, wrecking mobs, and pubs PvP?

I mean, I wouldn't say they are trash. But even with sunder you will probably get bored MFing with one.

With that gear you'll need to hit with 11 shards to equal the damage of 1 tick of a blizzard. Blizzard can AOE but your shards hit one time each.

One thing you could consider is that most high-end blizz sorcs also max FO and use orb inbetween blizzards for more damage.
