Without bots, d2 lod wouldn’t have survived 20+ years, and there wouldn’t have been a d2r remake.

Blizzard also designed the banning of bots in a way its profitable for both blizzard and the botters. And the amount of cd keys sold to botters was built into the economic forecast of d2r.

You better thank botters as without their outsized contribution to blizzards bottom line, this game wouldn’t have existed.

I disagree on the D2R ceasing to exist part. Blizzard loves making money off of zero innovation and D2 was a classic. EZ money (certainly made EZer with bots)

There might be a ban wave if blizzard wants people to buy more copies but it seems unlikely

Ye but not too often else ppl won’t re-buy the game

Gotta find that perfect balance to make people stick around and spend more money

Honestly d2r would have been fun if bots NEVER existed

Like the thing is, it’s already too late. Maybe for a no-bot ladder it would be fun but non ladder cannot be saved anymore. Even if they ever get rid of all the bots. Manual mfing will never be worth it again due to bots being around for too long

The point is lod wouldn’t be nearly the “classic” it was without botters. It became a huge money earner over time because of the constant rebuy of cd keys. it then became the pioneer in digital black market transactions which were largely made possible and scaled by bots and importing.

D2’s success is directly tied to the success of botting, black market sales, etc etc.

Without this, there wouldnt have been a d2r as d2 lod would never have survived / defined as a genre defining game.

Thank your botters. They made All this possible.

In fact, the big importers were some of the pioneers for crypto CEXs. One of which being the runner or the below importing sites (remove the xxxx’s):
LxxxxExxxxWxxxxT
D2xxxLxxxExxxGxxxIxxxxT

This site group created the crypto exhangr:
KxxxRxxxAxxxxKxxxxExxxN

Just type .com to the 2 above sites above and see where they redirect to. You can also check the LinkedIn of one of the founders of the crypto exchange above where he specifically has his founder title of the d2 item sites listed above.

The black market of d2 item sales pioneered much in the video game industry asnow developers realize the valuable asset isn’t the game, but the items/currency within, which was one of the pioneering ideas towards metaverses

It’s clear I know what I’m talking about and you don’t.

Thank your botters. They made all this possible.

It's impossible to stop botting, no company or government in the world is technically capable of such a thing. Even if you added hard captchas or something ridiculous, there would still be a black market for items

The only way to stop it is to disable trading or remove the financial incentives. If blizzard opened a cash shop to sell high runes and items, they might really kill botters

And this is why most games have moved toward items not being sold or needed. And most things being skins, mounts etc. things that does affect gameplay competiveness.

Companies hve learned that the black market made more money then they did. They don’t like this.

Companies are moving toward the fortnite model. Sell monthly passes and skins etc etc. then make updates that make people want to buy the newest skins. Rinse and repeat.

A game like d2, unless totally redesigned can’t move toward this model. So how do you generate ARR, annual reoccurring revenue. You make botters profit enough to rebuy keys and you continue your banning cycle

You're too swayed by recency bias to even acknowledge D2 was a classic before botters even carved a name for themselves.

This site was developed in 2002 and was specifically made for a bot. Lod was released in June 2021.

This has nothing to do with recency bias lol

Typical Guild: CEO member. Never knowing what they are talking about or doing.
