I've tried making a comparison between obsession and hoto + spirit (40 hoto + 35 spirit):
spirit + hoto: 5 all skills; Obsession: 4 all skills + skills from the staff (up to 7 to some skills);
spirit + hoto: 75 fcr; Obsession: 65 fcr;
spirit + hoto: 55 fhr; Obsession: 60 fcr;
spirit + hoto: 22 vitality; Obsession: 10 vitality;
spirit + hoto: 89-112 to mana; Obsession: 20 (10 energy);
spirit + hoto: 40 fire res, 75 cr, lr, pr; Obsession: 60-70 all res;
Obsession: 15-25% life;
Obsession: 75% extra gold;
Obsession: 30% mf;
Obsession: 24% Chance to cast level 10 Weaken when struck (In pvm I think it's kinda relevant)
Obsession: no relevant str requirement (the heaviest will be 34 str to wear); spirit + hoto: 156 str;
All in all I think obsession will be harder to make and way more expensive. It's rolls will change a lot of it's value as well as the + skill points it has.
In some aspects it's really close, but the fact that you can get 15-25 increased life AND you have a lot of str points freed up AND you get those + skill points from the staff, a good obsession vs perf hoto + spirit is a no-brainer.
you are cimpletely ignoring the FCR bps and how the builds are played
a fireballer at 105 fcr is ES. which makes the 15% mana from hoto and 20 life rep from hoto much more valuable than the 2 extra skills. Coupled with all the stats spirits offers such as sorb and mana, and 22 vit.
as well as tthe extra 10% fcr from hoto +spirit allows you to use 1x SOJ, which is even more mana and only makes the delta between skills between the 2 setups, 1 skill.
again, the staff is for idiots that dont know what they are doing. It looks much better than it actually is.
oh and oak from hoto
