Entirely not essential and ladder died when they moved everything to non-ladder. Only reason to play it is to get forum gold to fund non-ladder characters.

People already had access to infinite ladder runewords on nl buying them from people who dumped them after each season.

That is the goal for maybe 2% of the players. The other 98% do not have the time or will power to do it. Yes, the runewords carry over, but now you can still find and make them on non ladder. Why keep starting over when you won't hit 99 except to sell the items you find.

Pvp'd just fine all the time while playing D2 without using it, always pub games to stomp on.

The whole debate about don't change this, change that, they fixed this... game is dead is all hypocritical.

There is a list longer than the constitution for what you can and can't do or items you can't use in "GM" duels. But guess what, D2 is not fair and is not designed that way. Use whatever you want and play however you want, that trap assassin won't be able to do anything but heal you.
