Just want to bump this thread and raise an additional way in which scammers have been doing things.
The method is described here --
https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=90990073&f=148tl;dr is that if you are friendslisted with one of these scammers, they can monitor your bnet activity and hijack your trade games by using the friendslist "Join Game" feature as you are joining the trade game. Of course this will be obvious when it happens, in that there will be three players in the game, but I believe this is exactly what happened in this case (which is a really sad case because they even used a mediator too):
https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=90962346&f=250&o=0What this means that if you're on the other side of the trade when this happens,
even if you aren't friends with one of the scammers, you are still vulnerable to these scammers joining your games
even if you have "Allow Friends to Join" unchecked. The real safety check here is that only the two people involved in the trade should be logged into the game. If you see a third person join your game,
stop and go back to coordinating with the other person over JSP PMs.
Last but not least is that most likely the most common play here is probably to hijack the trade by opening trade window with the seller, who if they're not paying attention, may just accept the trade after receiving FG from the buyer. This can be especially bad if the game is chat bugged, but it's also just bad because right now chat is broken when you have the trade window open.
