i can be wrong and i certainly don't represent anyone else besides me. but i think it's not about the runewords, but ladder having a meaning to many of us. ladder is the mode to compete and to start over if you want a fresh start. when d2r launches people are excited for that exact fresh start. the first non ladder start takes away all of the excitement which has build up, because the chars you'd create on the 23 september are meaningless (for some/many).

NL chars will lose much meaning when the first ladder start.
On the phone atm so can’t find the post but I saw someone referencing Rod saying ladder will launch as soon as server stability is ensured. My hopes is that this will be within a week of launch which actually give this NL experience some meaning. We can explore the game in a slow pace before heading into ladder which i find kinda nice! But if they won’t launch ladder within a week after launch I will be disappointed..
