There's also the possibility that another variable influences the RNG seed, on purpose or not.
That would mean you controlled that variable without knowing it on the original 12 runs, but not on the additional testing.

Speaking of deterministic drop, it would be interesting to see what happens if you kill all 3 (or the last 2) at the very same time.
I guess RNG could decide the outcome, assuming Blizzard thought about such case...
Hard to do though, even with fat AOE damage.
I did another go in single player, was targeting the magic one this time so killed talic, then korlic & madawk and got magic.
so maybe its not a 100% thing but feels def more than 50%
