If you're on Steam, this worked for me...
Right click Diablo II in game library.
Properties.
Installed Files.
Verify integrity of game files.
Alternatively, under the same Properties Menu...
General
Launch Options
add "-address us.actual.battle.net"
You may switch "us" to "eu" to switch back and forth between US and Europe servers. Close and relaunch the game between changing these options.
