Now for the actual question to be answered lol

Assuming basic 100/160 schema, and a hypothetical MF run.

In players 1 mode, you would drop 38 items.
In players 2 mode, you would drop 52 items. (37% Increase in Drops)
In players 3 mode, you would drop 76 items. (100% Increase in Drops vs P1)
In players 4 mode, you would drop 86 items. (126%)
In players 5 mode, you would drop 91 items. (139%)
In players 6 mode, you would drop 96 items. (152%)
In players 7 mode, you would drop 98 items. (157%)
In players 8 mode, you would drop 99 items. (160%)

Main takeaway... P2 is not that special, it really kicks off BIG at P3 due to DOUBLING your drops.
Question: How to get P3 with SOLO play?
Answer: You are always P1, you need to add 4 extra players who arnt MFing with you to add the extra 2P. Therefore, need minimum 5P pub game. Or just play with two other friends, BUT you should share the loot therefore bonus negated.

Yes. In a 3 player coop with friends you're getting double drops to divide among 3 of you. F.ck this :D

Dedicated loot (WITHOUT bound sh.t) would be a great improvement. Would make public games a BIG boost.

sorry to necro, but i'm thinking of buying a 3rd copy of d2r this weekend to try this out

let me get this straight

if I:

1) load all 3 of my accounts into one game
2) party up
3) go MF on 1 character while other two stay in town

would i get
A) /players 3 amount of loot (In players 3 mode, you would drop 76 items. (100% Increase in Drops vs P1))
or
B) /players 2 amount of loot (In players 2 mode, you would drop 52 items. (37% Increase in Drops))

Also, if one of my toons is grushed to hell, and i create games with this toon, will all bosses be quest bugged for that game?

im quite new to diablo 2 as a whole, only started really playing in d2, ive heard that 3/5/8 people in a game have better loot

i only play solo online, and have no friends to farm with. am i missing out on a huge boost by having 2 mates?

most people have played this game to MF do it solo. Rng is a bitch no matter if you're solo or in a full game, but having 5 players does make the odds of an item dropping a lot higher than solo, but it's more or less about getting lucky.

i wouldn't worry too bad, but if you want to go full nerd (like me) then you'll end up spending $250 on d2 keys. D:

otherwise people just play solo, I would say mayb 2 to 3% of the population loads up 2-3 characters or less.

you're just seeing someone post about them loading 5 players into game and makes you wonder if you're at a big disadvantage....

Made. Me google this.

Well, most plain monster TC's have a no drop of 100, with the remainder items totalling a chance of 60, so in most cases the player 1 no drop chance is 100/160 (or 5/8). At higher player counts this becomes:

Players 1 = 100/160(~62%)
Players 2 = 38/98 (~48%)
Players 3 = 19/79 (~24%)
Players 4 = 10/70 (~14%)
Players 5 = 6/66 (~9%)
Players 6 = 3/63 (~4%)
Players 7 = 2/62 (~3%)
Players 8 = 1/61 (~1%)

The problem though is that not all TC's have the same drop counts. For example, Wraiths instead have the following:

No Drop = 75
Act 1 Good = 4
Act 1 Magic B = 25

Players 1 = 75/104 (~72%)
Players 2 = 31/60 (~51%)
Players 3 = 17/46 (~36%)
Players 4 = 10/39 (~25%)
Players 5 = 7/36 (~19%)
Players 6 = 4/33 (~12%)
Players 7 = 3/32 (~9%)
Players 8 = 2/31 (~6%)

So the gain in player count differs between these monsters. Act bosses are different again, and usually round out to 0 no drop chance at around players 3. Chests are different yet again. Quill Rats are different than any of the others too. Still, that said alot of monsters follow the standard 100/160 listed above (including cows).

As mentioned earlier, just remember that the player count increase is for total allied players in the same area as you. All other players equal half a player for drop purposes (but a full player for HP/damage/exp purposes). The only way to get a player 8 drop is to have 7 other partied players within two screens.

interesting, thanks
