Hey I heard you have a relative that works at Microsoft-ActiVision Blizzard Entertainment, is this true? Are you able to send in game suggestions? Maybe you can ask them to buff warlock a little?

but yes abyss is not good at maximalist BM duels. It can't kill anyone who has a belt of juvs and high HP, because it lacks spike damage, they can always teleport away or save/exit
You get something like -75% magic resist, 4400 hit + 9200/s abyss, so in pvp without horazons its 1300 hp + 2700/s for 2s. Down to 1.1k/2.3k vs horazons.
The tankiest builds (like other warlocks) can stand afk in a single abyss for its full duration and live, thanks to blood oath + consume + magic resist. Most only die if they eat the entire duration, but not if they teleport out.
Most people just happen to teleport through it while teleport is held down at 8-10 fpa, missing the initial cast and take ~1000 hp, which sure hurts but won't kill people outright

Abyss has a weird parallel to a cold sorc. It covers a much bigger aoe and is harder to avoid and can hit out of nowhere at random to hose people teleporting around. But cold will almost always OHKO anyone who isn't sorbing/stacking, whereas abyss won't one-shot anyone who isn't afk or on a glass cannon, but it can't be absorbed. When a cold sorc wants to be aggressive, she can chase and stomp with ice blast / glacial spike, or defensively hose a wide area with frozen orb. The abyss lock has essentially zero aggression outside of abyss because of how utterly poop chains/bolt are. The sorc is fragile and at best can be ES but still die, more likely is a pure glass cannon- but the warlock gets a free 43% all damage reduced and +20% max life and a minion. And all it takes to counter the cold sorc is stacking, whereas abyss locks will keep being as annoying as WSG-era joderdins

I think your best best would be a bm abyss warlock. You can also use it to grief pub games.

Maybe a trapper using death sentry next to a bunch of monster corpses. You can kill the warlock from off screen. Maybe a bowazon that stays off screen. ES blizz sorc can have a long duel with it too, the bm lock griefing a game can't stack all the cold res needed vs it.

When mosaic makes its way back in the game, maybe dflight+ dtalon will out-dps abyss lock too.

Hammerdin, bvc barb and charge/smitedin are top dogs from the old era. Trapsin was my fav but easily countered. Windy druids were solid. As for as seeing them vs a current warlock. I cannot say.

If you're a sorc or necro or zon or sin it's a 1 hit kill a vast majority of the time, but you can survive with 200-300 life sometimes. Paladin barb warlock druid can survive 1 hit depending on gear and oak/bo level etc, but will die on the second. It takes like 3-4k life in like half a second.

Barb or druid can even take 2 hits if they're teamed with bo + oak.

It's unbelievably BM lol.


Funny considering with a 2.4k hp sorc I can survive 3-4 hits.

yes, and can hit about -75% pierce (10 consume defiler, 7 gheeds, 8 hellwarden, 5 per sling, 20 ars dul mephistos, 10 uber jewel, 10 renewed sundered), while players can only get magic resist from horazons normally (30%) but if they really stretch can use crafted safety shield (10%). Only sorcs can imaginably get the bane's wraithskin bonus since it uses enigma's armor slot (30%). And there's no % magic absorb on items. So usually people have either -75% or -45% resist vs abyss warlock
and the only char who can stack magic resist... is another warlock, using consume on wyand voidbringer, once per game with limited duration, the only source in the whole game, and a warlock with some swap gear and ~34 consume winds up hitting +112% resist / +10% max magic resist / 54% magic pierce... and still be at 67% resist vs the abyss necro and take about 247 per direct hit / 516 per second.

I did vs fire warlock for the first time yesterday and it wasnt that fun
