self infinity itself can lower sundered monster res by 85/5 + 55 = 72
griffon can lower by 25
viper can lower by 5 -- if going extreme, this can be -20 with a 4os armor.

That's already 102, at base 95 res, it means that immune monsters have -7 light res

He's right. for a light or fire sorc, -res is always better, because fire/light mastery already give huge amount of + skill damage, any +skill damage from gear is additive to mastery +skill damage.

That's why when used by a nova sorc, -20/+10 griffon is better than -19/+15 griffon.

Why "-Res" beats "+Skills" for Nova

As a Sorceress, you have Lightning Mastery. By the time you are in endgame gear, your Mastery likely provides +400% to +500% Lightning Damage.The Diminishing Returns of +Skills: If you add another +10% Lightning Damage from a piece of gear, it is additive to your Mastery. Going from +400% to +410% is only a 2% actual damage increase.

The Multiplicative Power of -Res: If a monster has 0% resistance and you apply -20% Resistance (from Griffon’s Eye), you deal 120% damage. That is a 20% actual damage increase.

That was brainfart on my end regarding nova sorc. -10% resist is indeed more useful but the damage I achieved with maxroll was 18.5k vs brem the sparkling one. I was using faceted viper btw.

So what difference does this make, in the end?

That you'd prefer more lightning skill dmg on your Guardian's Thunder Jewel rather than more negative res? Something else I am missing?

Ok, but then you give up SoJ, 3/10 amu, good armor...

Anyway,
Dolphy
is right. Adding couple of percentages to an already high lightning mastery is nowhere near as good as stacking more negative res, which acts multiplicatively with mastery and skills.

yes, I agree, -res better

you can get ctc nova rings and ctc nova boots, 2 extra nova from getting hit can finish the pack faster so you can move to the next one, in Chaos Sanctuary at least.

Basically every Jsp user will get to those -78% ELR naturally, every Joe gets infi, griff, guardian thunder, facet and that's basically it, no need for perf. So the only thing is to buy more expensive renewed crack with minus and then perf all infis and griff stats. But there is no specific thing to look out for.

Some folks still used crescent, but self wield infi is the way for p8tz, the only choice.

A proper reinventing wheel topic :D I must have done this research like 5 times since 2001? lul
