Care to elaborate? I'm genuinely curious. Everyone I've interacted as been overall positive on the game. I'm sincerely intrigued to see another perspective. Let me know.
Thanks.
Back then, you the player had the choice to do anything when you logged in and it was always the "best" way to do it.
So for lvling, back then it was just baalruns + nila/dia xp. The issue was with not enough mobs giving xp, so it took forever to get to 99, but it was about teamplay and sticking together/helping each other. Sure afk baal leeches in pubs were always a problem and if you had enough high lvl chars in the game, everybody wanted to get xp from those 3 mobs. So it was far from perfect, but you cold login anytime of day and join/run a baalrun and it would fill and you would get the best possible xp, as there was nothing else.
Now:
The game decides which terror zone is currently active and if it even feels worth the effort, because you usually won't fill crappy tz times with 8 players. If you have perma 8 man games, you can be 99 in 2 days. Terror zones are wide spread, so it's often hard to keep the group together and most people don't want to share anyway and want to solo grind the p8 xp. So you lost the achievement 99, you lost the lvling community since the journey is usually either very short or stretched because good terror zones are rare and nobody cares for crappy zones. Without everybody being able to teleport it doesn't make sense to try to stick together in TZs.
If I have a break between meetings or whatever reason just to log in for 10-20 minutes, I probably won't because it's not worth it. Back then it was like: 20 minutes? that's 10 baalruns, let's go.
PvP got hit hard with all the adjustments in D2R. FHR /stun changes, WSG, changes to classes/skills/gear. BM is worse than it ever was and GM needs so many rules to make a duel fair. Warlock is only the next step here...
Gearing with TZs and unlimited games is just different. We always had bots, but they were never as efficient as they are now. You feel even more behind the curve now with TZs dropping everything.
In my opinion, they first made zones TC85/87 which was a step in the right direction. Then they introduced TZs and nullyfied that change with the TC zones. They overdid TZs with lvl 96 and they made them awful with the randomness of zones. They should have made a game with TZ active like a new "difficulty" level. You activate TZ and the whole game has increased density, increased mob lvl ~93 and special events if you cleared XX from an act or something like that. Make all zones "equally" good for farming, so different classes/builds can choose the area that fits best, split or group farming makes sense and you can stay in 1 game as long as you like to really farm through and have something else than throne/cs if you'd like or just go farm the same zone over and over if you prefer.
They should have made a button for WSG and not changed immunity to stun/FHRlock. They should have made eBUG or strBUG into features. they should have balanced classes with PvM and PvP in mind. They should have never changed WW to be normal attack speed ias and just allowed additional ias from gear.
I did my 7 99 on D2R and with warlock I thought about doing the 8th. But I cannot bring myself to chase TZs again. It's so awful with every 30 min changing, so I won't get into grinding again.
