The tooltip is not showing you dps or dmg, just the skill stats.
You character screen is showing you dmg, not dps.
I get these dps numbers by calculating them, simple maths.

Pride yes, on merc.
Phoenix no. Expensive noob trap. If you made the mistake of buying it, sell it, or use it on a fire sorc/druid/warlock or whatever, but not on this build.

Each hard point (not soft point form +skills) is making you 2% more tanky, on top of all your other dmg reductions from res/DR/mdr/pdr/sorb, up to 43% at 20 hard points.
This is by far the single best defensive skill in the game, all classes included.
Some examples:
If you are down to -100 res, instead of taking 200% dmg you take 114% dmg.
If you are at 75 res, instead of taking 25% dmg you take 14.25% dmg.
If you are at 8% DR, instead of taking 92% dmg you take 52.4% dmg.

I'm glad if you enjoyed it, but I doubt you understood it.
You wouldn't be asking me this if you understood what I wrote:

i am getting it slowly dont worry. so i want to use insight on my character or like my fortitude is good, i was thikning of doom to experiment a little. does that 8% damage reduction mean like in a helm from ber?
