Thats diabolical, but of course it would also wipe yours

it still active according to this reddit thread not sure if allowed to do outside links or not but its a public service announcement - the bug is still active

https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo_2_Resurrected/comments/1rhk4zv/why_didnt_anyone_warn_me_the_chronicle_was_bugged/

apparently blizz put out a notice if you find something from a chest or rack DONT ID it yet... ROLF

I see smart people leave the party when they people join. thats what im going to do now

Disable - auto-party invite

It should not be active unless you are in range of "party", like 2-3 screens away max. If you are in range, can be active. Maybe even only 1 screen away.
Not in range, no chronicle.
That resolves the situation of "but I killed the mob but didnt pick the item but it was my MF working but I didnt get the chronicle even if the drop was thanks to me" and so on,
While also resolving you being in Cold Plains, dropping nothing, while some guy drops a Tyraels on Baal and you get the Chronicle.

iding adds to the chronicle of everyone in the game, regardless of where they are and regardless of if they are partied or not. they can even be hostiled and it will still add to their chronicle. unless they changed it without including hotfix notes

unless you're suggesting how it should be instead, yea idk. maybe there could be a fourth reward for truly self found items and not including party ids

Who leaves the mang song on the floor to stash 3x flawless amethysts and a lem rune ? (No I dont know if those were the items that blocked the way but cmon)
Just drop all your trash loot and take the worthy loot already.
Game might have crashed in between and the unique archon staff woulda been lost.
Like is it not obvious you prioritize the rare items to the lesser ones, just for the possibility of the game crashing ?
I mean unless the guy already had dropped some sick items and didnt stash em, I dont understand how this happens.

they said it was a shako they had to move to stash

I am talking range, same as how "Party 8/8" drop rates work.
Hostile or not hostile I havent thought about it. But I would say, even if Hostile, just dont be in the same area as others.
Thats just my take,
You could be more conservative and say "if you didnt pick it up, it doesnt count", both are fine with me, but my thing seems a bit more fair, and does not break other peoples fun in the game by making them discover an item they never saw drop.

So shako > mang song ?
I have dropped one mangs in my life, shakos I quit counting long ago
I guess ladder makes you do crazy things huh...
