I don't think you can really do any major end game meta changes in D2R

all you can do is hope to make mid tier items more viable/available put a use to some of those underused runes and hopefully adjust underused skills/play styles.

As mentioned the option for a D2R expansion is still there. Major changes would have a big impact on the core of D2. Since D2 classic will not be abandoned so soon, the whole game design has also to be set up by MicroBlizzard for both clients to some extent.

You easily can. I’m no fan of pd2 but they pulled it off quite well. Blizzard is just scared so they did nothing that actually matters lol

There's a lot of hardcore d2 fans that want nothing to do with those mods though.

You have to find a balance to keep a majority of legacy lovers happy and a majority of people wanting change to be happy.

Anyone else think the act 3 fire merc with enchant sounds pretty cool for melee builds? I wonder what lvl enchant it will give, but it seems like a creative way to add good utility similar to the auras from an act 2 merc. I wish they could use other weapons besides swords because if you could give them a beast for Fanat plus enchant that would be nutty
