always use spirit (or storm if you're a pussy). get FR from flickering flame on merc. LR from scs, ring, gloves and boots. you'll be decently stacked

2. Don’t use resist gear
3. Ask on jsp why your resists are low

On HC I use stormshield + Um. I also prefer ammy with res over Highlord. I sacrifice skillers for resistance charms.

With this set up u should have enough res.
Rest u fill with your charms
Merc should use flickering flame so u can mainly use light res scs.

Short version, it doesn't matter. Long version, worst thing you can with java is to have a java who doesn't instantly delete screens. Your merc dies, you die etc. The only resistances you should care about are fire and lightning. Wear a ravenfrost for cold absorb and that's it. I recommend spirit.

I missed the Phoenix bit. That shield sucks, especially on Java. Drop it for Spirit.

There is a running version which is super good for cows and bases. Instead of the shit called CoH on a java, you can wear a light 100life 4os armor socketed with 4 x light facet, use titans, griffon and an insight merc instead of infinity. Up to p5, much faster clear. You'll get bases only most of the time, recommended for CS and cows only. The shield can be anything then.
