Personally I do the gold method. I hide pretty much everything except for gold, so as I kill things, it eases my nerves as long as I see piles of gold around which auto get picked up as I walk anyways so things arent as cluttered as you would expect. I feel this is my middle ground between filtering and peace of mind.

Bonus. I set <space> (or whatever) to show items (filtered) so it clears everything thats in my loot filter except what I want. My <alt> key is now bound to show items (unfiltered) so its like back in the old days, whenever I feel like I want to look at items come up on the screen, its the natural hold <alt> press thats built into my muscle memory

I try to do that but I still forget sometimes, they should just let us toggle it on by default

Most the time I do exactly as you say and press alt after I buff, but then idk if I turned it on or off because I don't remember if I turned it on soon as I joined the game as I'm usually pretty stoned when I'm playing

all great methods, I might lower gold tbh, I think I set it to stacks of 10k or more. Maybe I will try the muscle memory piece
