depends on what you're fighting really
it's obviously not as strong vs fire immune monsters... but those are in the "big" TZs you will want to farm in p8 runs anyway (CS and WSK)
the A5 TZs I mentioned don't have a lot of fire immunes so auradin doesn't suffer as much there
the playstyle I used was to charge around and only stop to kill elite packs... by the time you killed the elite pack all monsters on screen will be dead as well and you can charge for the next pack. I did this in p5 games because I have 5 clients; usually I managed to get 60-70% of a bar in an hour of decent TZ (like crystalline passage or glacial trail). you can probably do it faster as a hammerdin but I can't stand the playstyle, that's why I went with auradin
auradin will give you good results in dense and open areas. the aura pulses really benefit from density. in ancients way for example I would always just rush to icy cellar and kill any elites on my way; clear the cellar and go next. icy cellar is so densely packed with elites and champions, and completely open as well... ideal for auradins. if you get a shitty TZ like blood moor you might as well log off because auradin completely sucks there. auradin is great if you do those good A5 TZs, flayer jungle and tombs, and if you join pub runs for CS and WSK. personally I never died so I didn't even use CTA, I used a teleport staff on swap for those areas where movement is constricted (like the A5 TZs).

don't expect it to be miraculous or something. to me it's fun to kill entire screens of monsters with 2-3 ticks of your aura while you focus on zealing the couple of strong monsters on your screen. if you like that you might try it. dream zealer plays more like hammerdin (tele to elite, kill it with zeal instead of hammer, go next), don't expect the aura ticks to kill monsters in high-ish player counts with 2x dream.
edit: flickering flame is a trap, use CoA with 2x facets or 30 FRW 3 facet tiara depending on if you want tankiness or mobility

The reason why I've been procrastinating doing lvl 99 barb and necro.

Once you do it there’s no going back anything else feels like a chore and slow as hell

🤢barb and necro are brutal. I actually preferred barb over necro even though necro is faster overall. At least barbs feel badass even if they suck
