1 big reason D2R loot system that we all love and is legendary will not be seen again like how they changed it in D3, DImmortal and D4 is actually the very same thing that actually created JSP in the first place.

Bots. Lol im sure many have heard already now. I dont hate botters personally
Dont love them but i have friends here who went that route so besides some teasing here and there iv long accepted it as normal.

Boting. Yes, now its not the only reason obviously but i guess they wanted to avoid the issue of having to deal with botting and that sort of cheating over the avg player.

Have i or will i ever bot? No. Makes the game boring and finding a good item useless. Its strictly for people wanting to profit off of Diablo 2 amazing item loot system. So many years iv cried like a little girl that the high expectations iv had in D3, D4 and even immortal and how dissapointing it is that there is no lottery feeling or reason to play after campaign and its biggest reason i guess is they dont wanna go through bot battling.

*sigh* Then why kill pvp too? ATLEAST Diablo Immortal made PVP awesome. It just sucked at loot/skill system.

D4 has fun pvm and campaign but sucky loot system and pvp is in the game but its not only dead and dumb how they set it up but in D4 they more or less made every top build a copy and paste and even Mythic uniques arent exciting.

D2R is literally the last we will ever see of this loot system and sadly its not likely to change because of 3rd party individuals and blizzards lack of wanting to try a method of either combatting it or blocking it.

(Only reason i bring this to attention)
Like myself for years it never made sense to me why be so different from what made Diablo so good and yeah. I learned a big reason 1 of several but told its a leading factor and wanted to give some clarity to others who also had no idea why. Its not a good enough reason in my opinon but i guess i dont run the game company so its a factor im sure i dont fully comprehend. I will say if i win the lottery one day before im too old which i already am but damnit its happening :fume: Ill go to war against botting if it brings us a massive D2R future lol. Good news is RoTW sold over 1 million copies. For a 25 year old revamp game it shows its still loved so atleast D2R itself may have a little content coming. Only time will tell. So lets stay awhile and listen for what is to come!

Indie games built by solo devs or smaller teams using AI to assist are the future of good games imo. We need to keep our eyes open and support those who are aiming to keep this legacy system, which is alchemical and esoteric in its core, alive.

We can't expect the large studios publicly traded and subject to bureaucracy and investors to actually create something good. Their core intention is to profit both in the short term but keep the money coming long term as well. Making games that can be played forever like D2 is not something that is in their primary interests.

similar to selling/smuggling drugs, you aren’t going to stop people from botting as long as there’s a demand for the loot

ironman btw I hope they add an SSF mode one day like they did with d3 itd be such a breath of fresh air

I think the main reason they designed loot system in D3/4 to be like that is because they wanted to make the game easy for normies, who will play less than 100 hours, finish the campaign and maybe revisit after an expansion.

Another reason is that people who designed D3/4 are not even half as good at their job as the D1/2 devs were. And their taste is oriented more towards McDonald’s burgers than a premium steak.

Also, even if there are some good developers there, they are most likely overwhelmed and outvoted by a big corporation structure, procedures, meetings and incentives that do not promote good, artistic products but a mass produced slop instead.

There is one way.
Make freshly dropped items have a timer of like 2 hours before it become completely acc binded.
It makes botting harder to accumulate and sell off at one go
