true. barb has never been very stronk in lod (in classic very stronk).
as he was already weak they nerfed him in 2.4 and destroyed all weapon variety. made 2handers useless and made him affected by slow, freeze and decrep. i dont know why they did that but the community didnt care so they thought its ok and kept it.

It got a find item buff (and made grief phase blade bis on any ias roll) at the cost of losing almost all 2hander options, so most people were content with that. The problem was, at around the same time, the other classes (maybe except necro) received a decent (fire druid, bowa) or very strong (nova, mosaic) build.
