i'm not sure i understand your first sentence but i believe effective resistances are capped to -100 (aka double damage), so if you apply -200 to a 50 res or to a 100 res character the actual damage won't change (still -100 actual res), but if you apply -200 to a 250 res character, 50 res will stay in effect

that's the point of stacking resistances against cold sorc, if you stack cold res up to like 500 blizz sorc won't do much to you because actual (tooltip) damage is low and needs -res to be effective

It's alright Ive been playing a long time too and don't know everything about the game. Plus lotsa long breaks and changes lately.

Cold Mastery works in PvP to it's full effect. However, only losers play Blizz sorcs in PvP
