Diablo II: Resurrected Performance Guide
How to Load Up to Ten Times Faster

Text Format
Part 1: In-Game Settings Optimization
Before modifying any files, you should adjust your in-game video settings, as frame rates are directly tied to loading speeds in D2R.

  • Disable Vertical Sync (V-Sync): Open your in-game options and ensure Vertical Sync is turned OFF. This prevents the game from locking your FPS to your monitor's refresh rate.
  • Uncap FPS: Set your "Framerate Cap" to either Uncapped or a very high value. Higher FPS allows for faster data processing during load screens.

Part 2: Preparing the Battle.net Launcher
You need to tell the game to prioritize the extracted files we will be creating.

  1. Check for Updates: In the Battle.net launcher, click the gear icon (Options) next to the Play button and select "Check for Updates."
  2. Add Launch Commands:

    • Go to Game Settings in the launcher.
    • Check the box for Additional command line arguments.
    • Enter the following exactly:
      Code
      -direct -txt

Part 3: Extracting Game Files (Advanced)
This step involves extracting the game's compressed data so your PC can read it directly, providing the most significant boost in speed.

  1. Download CascView: You will need a third-party tool called Ladic Cask Viewer (CascView) to open the game's data storage.
  2. Open Game Storage:

    • Open CascView and click Open Storage in the top left.
    • Navigate to your D2R installation folder (usually in Program Files (x86)) and select the folder.

  3. Extract Data:

    • Inside CascView, navigate into the data folder.
    • Select the folders within and click Extract.
    • Pick a temporary destination, such as a "work" folder in your Downloads.

Note: This process may take a good amount of time depending on your system specifications.

Part 4: Moving the Extracted Files

  1. Locate Your Install Folder: Go to your D2R installation directory and open the data folder.
  2. Move the Files: Drag the files you just extracted from your "work" folder directly into the game's data folder.
  3. Final Test: Launch the game. Note that the very first load after booting the game or using a waypoint for the first time may still take a moment, but subsequent loads will be incredibly fast!

Important Extras

  • SSD Recommended: For the best results, ensure the game is installed on an SSD rather than a traditional hard drive.
  • Storage Space: This process requires approximately 40GB of extra free space on your drive.
  • Troubleshooting: If you experience issues loading the game after these steps, use the Battle.net launcher to Repair Game Files, and try again from step 3.

I will be working on creating videos and written guides on improving and sharing knowledge about d2r.
It will be clear, no non-sense and straight to the case guides.
So there will be no need to watch the videos.

Next coming up in later this week will be on: Loot Filters

Be careful using this method. You will have to complete this process again with each update of the game.
Also be aware that sometimes, Battle.net has issues detecting and reading the Direct TXT files with this method, so it will attempt to redownload the entire game to fix the issue. When this happens, you may well have to redo the process.
An additional note edited later - not every file will be able to be extracted, just concern yourself with the data files ONLY. As of RotW, some newer files use a different encoding and compression method, which don't currently extract properly with the current software available.
Finally, this method can sometimes put the launcher in a loop where it keeps attempting to "repair" the game files via download. When this happens, deleting the entire data folder, redownloading, and following the above steps again can be required to solve the issue.
You can go weeks using this before issues randomly arise. No, you haven't necessarily done anything wrong. The whole is just held together with masking tape, as the duct tape was actually Brevik's and he took it with him when he left.

I highly recommend that if you play single player and don't want to face the above issues, launch the game through a mod loader or directly through the exe so you can bypass bnet being an ass sometimes.

Thanky so much for this. People can troubleshoot even further out from your post.
I haven't had the need to use this method since Patch 2.4, April 14, 2022 as the loading times became acceptable. And again even faster in patch 2.7.
But RotW it was at least 5 times slower. Not sure what was ruined there -_-

yeah... RotW is fun like that. It is an attempt at an update of the Resurrected retouch of the game, rather than from the actual game under the hood (which is why legacy mode no longer works btw). The whole thing is very inefficient. Different developers using different code akin to Squidward putting a new nose on Spongebob's statue, although generally more well-received. I love it, but boy is it jank.

What I am looking for for loot filters is that I dynamically change the loot filter by my chronicle progression but I don't want to break it by removing super valuable stuff by doing so.

Examples:
"oh, I found this unique diadem. I can turn it off now"
"I found nightwings but not the other unique one"

The more I think about it: I think I need some kind of tier list where I can turn off more and more due to ladder progression. Also I might want to part out for example magic pelts or magic claws because these could be super valuable but not really worth the time picking up. And on top of that the chronicle stuff I still need.

I think I have to do it myself
