I'm interested in PvP'ing. However, I am familiar with how the community used to behave back in the OG days.
For example, if someone gets a namelock on you, the only way to break it is by Teleporting a few screens away so that it forcibly drops. Well, whenever you do this, people consider the duel over, and call you a pussy, or whatever. Same goes for basically any number of other strategies and counter-strategies. If you ever dared do anything that wasn't try to Telestomp the other player faster than they Telestomp you, you were typically ridiculed for it. Like, god forbid a Chargeadin reaches you and one-shots your Bone Armor, and you Teleport around a corner to recast it. God forbid a FoH Pally kills your Golem and you get a screen's distance and recast it.
God forbid you do basically anything that... isn't try to Telestomp the other player faster than they Telestomp you. (Basically, the caster version of two Barbs exiting town and WW'ing through each other until one of them collapses at the end of the cast.)
In other words... Do people respect strategy, or do they keep trying to have dueling be nothing more than glorified gear comparisons?
There are characters that can play both agressively and defensively. Like hammer or trapassa.
But if you are a necro against an assassin for example I don't see too much opportunity to be the offensive player, thats just how the matchup is.
I never seen anyone complaining about that what you describe. If you are namelocked as a nec vs a foh and you don't go away to lose it then you are just dumb lól.
So I suggest you to join and play some pvp here but keep it mind that d2 was not made for pvp and its balanced and regulated by the community, so its not always fair by definition.
I returned for d2r, I rarely play public games but having lots of fun so far with the events organized here. If you don't like it you can just stop playing anytime.
